Today our Prairieland CEO students had the opportunity to visit Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative! ⚡️
Eastern Illini’s mission is simple but powerful: to provide members with safe, reliable energy solutions and exceptional service.
Formed in 1987 through the union of Eastern Illinois Power Cooperative and Illini Electric Cooperative—both originally founded in 1938—Eastern Illini was built on the belief that rural communities deserve dependable, affordable electricity. When no other providers were willing to serve “last-mile” areas of east central Illinois, local residents stepped up, organized, and created their own cooperative through the Rural Electrification Act of FDR’s New Deal.
Today, Eastern Illini continues that purpose-driven legacy. A nine-member elected board—made up of local member-owners—guides the cooperative with the same commitment to community, service, and reliability.
Our students learned not only how electricity is delivered, but also how a member-owned cooperative operates, makes decisions, and plans for the future. This hands-on exposure helps them see the real impact local organizations have on our communities.
A huge thank you to Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative for opening your doors, sharing your expertise, and investing in the next generation of leaders! ⚡️
We appreciate your dedication to powering rural Illinois—yesterday, today, and for years to come
