About Me

Moving to a new school at age 7 changed everything about who I am today. My name is Iain Marx, a 17-year-old senior attending Fisher Jr/Sr High School. Being born in Champaign with my siblings, my parents made the decision to move to Springfield to be closer to my grandparents and relatives. In our new home I made many memories whether it was with our family dog Aggy or making a pillow fort with my siblings Ava and Leo. Although I was young, the first few years in Springfield gave me experiences that helped shape my early personality and introduced me to a bigger sense of family.

OwenMarsh was the first school I have memories of and where I met my first friends. I don’t remember much about my friends from that time, other than us hanging out on the playground during recess—but I do remember that we always had fun together. Some major memories I can remember from Springfield are attending cub scouts with my dad, my grandma Becky babysitting me, watching the 4th of July fireworks from my grandpa’s (Pawpaw Choochoo) apartment, and playing foosball in my Grandma and Grandpa’s (Mawmaw and Pawpaw Kenny’s) basement, and going on dates with my mom to the candy store.

Just when I was getting used to life in Springfield, another big change came our way. A few months after I turned 7 we moved back to the Champaign area where we lived today. However, we didn’t leave everyone behind in Springfield as Pawpaw Choochoo moved in with us in his own part of the house we called the Witt’s End. I was now in second grade attending Fisher Grade School where I made new friends. These new friends influenced me to try many new hobbies like soccer, golf, basketball, baseball, and Video Games. As I continued growing up and exploring my interests, I started to discover which hobbies truly meant the most to me. When entering High School I fell in love with golf, playing it from my freshman year to my senior year and I'm now 3rd on my team in varsity golf.

Beyond my hobbies, one of the most important influences in my life was always close by: my grandpa, Pawpaw Choochoo. Pawpaw Choochoo was a huge part of my life growing up. He would drive me and my siblings to OwenMarsh and always treat us to tootsie rolls. When we moved back to the Champaign area my grandpa decided to grow tomatoes and this always intrigued me. The next year, with my parents' help and my grandpa's advice, I began growing my own crops. At first, I grew tomatoes and now I'm growing a huge assortment of vegetables and a few fruits as well, which I enjoy making goods to sell for a profit. Last fall Pawpaw Choochoo sadly passed away, but I will always remember making pickles and zucchini bread with him and working in the garden while he gave me advice.

Looking back, each chapter of my life helped make me who I am today. I’ve learned a lot about what matters to me—like family, hard work, and doing things I enjoy. Whether it was messing around as a kid, learning how to golf, or starting a garden, all of it helped shape me. I'm proud of becoming 3rd on the varsity golf team, keeping a garden business going, and learning how to work hard at something. After high school, I’m planning on going to college. I’m thinking about studying something related to agriculture. No matter what happens, I’ll always remember where I came from and the people who helped me along the way, especially Pawpaw Choochoo.
